Simon and I are enjoying full days with swimming, jam-making, raspberry-picking and dispersed interviews/internet times looking for jobs. Kind of hard, when we're not yet ready to go back to work.
Just finished a canoeing trip to Pitt Lake - Zozoes LOVES the canoe!
Setting off! My uncles and cousins gave us this canoe as a wedding present.

After a few hours canoeing, stopped for a hike up to some falls

Don't you feel safe in the hand of a great sailor? Pretty colours on the depth gage

In vernon just for a few days - supposedly to relax at the Outback... instead got stuck into moving 30 years of my parents' storage units into other storage. They are unable to throw anything away! After our tiny house in Cali, it drives us nuts.
Tired dogs in vernon

My lovely brother after a wakeboard gave him a black eye and popped out his shoulder. When he blows his nose his eye swells up.

Good times.
And we have a project.
Next week we drive up north to check out a silver claim my great-grandfather bought. He was a very successful silver and cobalt miner in Ontario (
http://www.cobalt.ca/history.htm), and brought six claims in northern BC. In 1910, he paid $30,000 for the rights to a silver claim (he REALLY thought there was something there!), and promptly died. Since then, we've been paying yearly to uphold this. After my grandpa died, my dad decided it was time to see what's there.
So, we're having fun reading about rock identification, and getting the claim info sufficiently organized so we know where we are. Which, BTW, is in the middle of nowhere.
The claim is a few hours from Kitsault (
http://abandonedtowns.forumarena.com/abandonedtowns-post-3.html), which is itself 4 hours from Terrace. Kitsault is too small for a map, but check out Terrace in google maps. Terrace is 20 hours from Vancouver.
Bears and mozzies galore.
Most likely, we won't find anything; I think my highest hopes are that we see the galena vein we heard is there (lead/silver), and setup enough trails and camp that the exploration for samples etc next year would be easier. But we'll have fun, are learning something in the process, and get to explore parts of the country we wouldn't normally go, along with my crazy fandamily.
We leave end of this week. Looking forward!
Finally, speaking of bear - we had partked the volvo at the ranch while we were gone. During that time we had some bears hanging around who were apparantly very hungry - they killed both our llamas. However, the bumper of my car has been chewed in multiple places, with deep gouges from their teeth.
You reckon geico will believe me that a bear ate my bumper?
